Stronger Than Metal
Tooth-colored fillings (also called white fillings) are made of composite resin and provide stronger, safer restorations for your teeth. They require less tooth preparation (i.e. drilling!) than metal fillings do, leaving more of your natural tooth structure intact.

Additionally, tooth-colored fillings are biocompatible, mercury-free and don’t react to temperature changes the way metal fillings do. When exposed to hot or cold (think coffee or ice cream) metal fillings expand or contract within the tooth. All this movement can weaken tooth walls, leading to fracture or breaking. The movement also creates space between the filling and the tooth wall; allowing dangerous bacteria to get in, unseen, and cause more damage and decay.
